Gauthier sets new state and national record

SHELBY – Shelby senior Navea Gauthier is now the record holder for career kills at the high school level in the state of Michigan, setting a new mark of 3,615.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, Gauthier moved past Alisha Glass’ mark of 3,584 which was set in 2006. Glass played her high school volleyball for Leland Public School in northwestern Michigan, and has since gone on to play professionally.

The mark of 3,584 was not only the top spot in Michigan, but also nationally. Per the National Federation of State High School Associations record books, Glass’ record stood across all 50 states. Gauthier will now move into that top spot.

Glass was a 3x NCAA National Champion at Penn State, won a gold medal in the 2014 World Championship and two bronze medals at the 2015 World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics. She currently plays professionally for the Vegas Thrill of the Pro Volleyball Federation.

The decorated athlete also took time to congratulate Gauthier on the accomplishment in a personalized video.

Gauthier will look to add to her total this week as the Tigers start district tournament action Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. against MCC. Shelby hosts all district games in 2024.
