Hart Cheer places second in district tournament, advances to regionals

A second place finish for Hart’s competitive cheer team Saturday, Feb. 15 in Comstock Park, advanced the Pirates past the district tournament and on to regionals.

Hart had an outstanding performance, keeping things tight with district champions, Grand Rapids West Catholic.

The Pirates scored 218.3 points in round one, matching the Falcons in first place. Hart scored the highest of any team in the second round, but suffered 10 penalty points that would eventually cost them a district title. Heading into round three, the Pirates trailed GR West Catholic by seven points.

Round three didn’t disappoint for Hart, leading to a score of 283.8. That didn’t do enough to close the gap between second and first place however, as the Falcons came in right behind them with 282.9 points in round three.

Second place doesn’t get a trophy, but the Pirates are hoping the hardware will come in the regional tournament. Hart will compete for that regional title at Grand Rapids West Catholic Saturday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m.

The top four teams from each regional tournament in D3 will compete for a state title at McGuirk Arena on the Central Michigan University campus in Mount Pleasant, Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m.
