In a high-octane battle of top-10 teams, No. 8 Reeths-Puffer and No. 6 Grand Haven split a doubleheader Thursday that could be a district finals preview. The Rockets took a 7-4 win in game one before the Bucs bounced back for a 9-1 win to close it out.
A clutch three-run sixth inning helped boost the Rockets (4-1) to the game-one win. R-P got two hits in the inning, drew two walks and took advantage of a Grand Haven error.
Lainey McDaniel pitched a solid game in the circle, allowing six hits and two earned runs and striking out four. She also got two hits and scored three runs to pace the offense. Kyleigh Bilek had a hit and two RBI.
Grand Haven jumped on the Rockets early in game two, scoring twice in the first inning. They added on multi-run innings in the third, fourth and fifth. Abbie Critchett had two hits and drove in the Rockets' only run, and Mady Snyder struck out four in the circle.
